Today, reasons such as working in closed environments, unhealthy diet and not being enough in outdoor activities increase vitamin D deficiency. Scientific research shows that vitamin D deficiency; It reveals that it causes cancer, diabetes, hypertension, chronic fatigue, depression, heart and rheumatic diseases.
Young women are more at risk
Especially in women with breast cancer, vitamin D levels are seen to be normal or above normal. It has been shown that women with high vitamin D levels are at least 2 times more likely to survive than women with low vitamin D levels. Vitamin D below normal limits is important not only for women with breast cancer, but also for taking precautions before getting breast cancer.
Take action against breast cancer with vitamin D
Vitamin D prevents rapid divisions by increasing communication between cells. Vitamin D receptors on the cells prevent the abnormal growth of those cells, that is, their proliferation, thereby reducing the blood flow to them. Hence, the cells cannot be fed and perish. Therefore, women with high vitamin D levels have a longer life expectancy, even if they have breast cancer. A normal level of vitamin D in a woman without cancer should be at least 30 ng/ml.
The vitamin D level of many women, who are thought to live in closed environments, is around 17 ng/ml. Women who take vitamin D levels above 50 ng/ml have a 50% lower risk of developing breast cancer. Increasing the vitamin D level of 50 ng/ml and above, even in women who have had breast cancer before, has a positive effect on the treatment. Some studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency, apart from breast cancer; It has also been found to increase the risk of colon, lung and prostate cancer.
Take advantage of the sun
Adequate vitamin D intake is achieved through proper nutrition and proper use of sunlight. For this reason, it is important to benefit from the sun during the day except at noon. Salmon and tuna, fish oils, chicken livers and egg yolks, which are rich in vitamin D, should be consumed. Milk, fruit juices, especially orange juice, and cereal products also contain vitamin D.
Do not take supplements without consulting a doctor
Intake of vitamin D is extremely beneficial for the body, but as too much of everything is harmful, excessive intake of this vitamin can cause undesirable effects. A person should not take more than 4000 units of vitamin D per day. Very high levels of vitamin D can lead to calcium deposits in a person’s soft tissues and organs. For this reason, expert help should be sought and the level of vitamin D in the body should be measured.
