New hope for early detection of stomach cancer

In a study conducted at the University of Adelaide in Australia, gastric cancer early diagnosisable to put the four new biomarkers (biomarker) detected in the blood of cancer patients. In terms of incidence of gastric cancer among other cancers 4th place. In case of death 2nd placeexists. The head of the project, Assoc. Dr. Peter Hoffman talks about the major problems with cancer: ‘Stomach cancer often shows no symptoms in its early stages. Most cancers not diagnosed until advanced stages and therefore survival rates are low’

‘Endoscopic examinations are expensive and invasive, so they are uncomfortable for the patient. Most of the time, endoscopy is not performed until the cancer reaches an advanced stage. Non-invasive, inexpensive and a simple blood test Early detection of stomach cancer through the use of this disease can have great consequences for the survival of people with this disease.’

In the study, published in the journal Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, scientists identified four new proteins that differ in concentration in the blood of stomach cancer patients.

In this latest research, Dr Julia Humphries and Dr. Megan Penno; As a result of samples taken from 37 gastric cancer patients, 11 of whom were in the early stage, and a control group, which was healthy and had stomach disease other than cancer, they showed that there were differences in the levels of 4 proteins in their serum.

Afamin, clusterin, haptoglobin and vitamin-D binding protein (VDBP), each of these four proteins was found to be better than CA72-4, the clinical indicator currently used in distinguishing between cancerous and healthy people. ‘Using these four indicators together shows a high level of detection of gastric cancer. selectivity and sensitivity will provide.’ says Dr. hoffman With the latest developments regarding cancer, we wish on behalf of humanity that this disease will become easily detectable and treatable as soon as possible and that it will no longer be a fearful dream.
