Gynecological cancers that haunt women

Gynecological cancers, which have an important place among the cancer cases seen in the world, do not let go of women despite all the new developments in medicine. Intrauterine, ovarian and cervical cancers, which are among the types of gynecological cancers that are seen especially in our country at the age of 60 and later, begin to show themselves during the menopause period.

In women, bleeding during menopause can have alarming consequences. Bleeding due to various reasons can sometimes be a symptom of a gynecological cancer. Stating that the most common type of gynecological cancer in Turkey is intrauterine cancer, EmseyHospital Gynecology Clinic Chief Gynecological Oncological Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Göçmen pointed out that the most important symptom of this dangerous type of cancer is bleeding during menopause.

Sharing important information about modern treatment approaches in female cancers, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Göçmen said, “The majority of intrauterine cancers are seen after menopause and at the age of 60-61 on average. 80% of the patients are diagnosed in the early period and the most important symptom is postmenopausal bleeding. Diagnosis is made by taking a piece from the uterus for treatment in irregular bleeding, menopausal bleeding, overweight and irregular menstrual cycle. The main treatment for early-stage intrauterine cancer is removal of the uterus. Endoscopic surgery (laparoscopic or robotic surgery), known as closed surgery, is the most appropriate surgical method for these patients. said.

The deadliest type of gynecological cancer: Ovarian cancers

Stating that ovarian cancer is the most common in women after uterine cancer, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Göçmen said that this type of cancer can be detected in women in advanced stages and that it is the deadliest gynecological cancer. Adding that the average age of appearance is 63, Göçmen made some warnings: “Swelling in the abdomen, loss of appetite, weight loss, digestive problems, groin fullness and pain are among the symptoms of the disease. Carriers with BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, among the mutations that predispose to breast cancer, those with familial colon cancer, those with a family history of ovarian cancer, and those without pregnancy are at high risk. People in this group should be under regular control.”

At least once a year gynecological examination is a must against cervical cancer!

Touching on cervical cancer, which is one of the gynecological cancer types, Emsey Hospital Gynecology Clinic Chief Prof. Dr. Emphasizing that it is the third most common type of gynecological cancer in Turkey, Ahmet Göçmen said, “It is the third most common gynecological cancer in our country. It is a preventable type of gynecological cancer. The average age is 52 years, and the incidence of cancer is significantly reduced by cervical screening test or HPV screening. Unfortunately, half of the cases are still detected at an advanced stage. It is HPV that causes cervical cancer.

By making vaccines (2 and 4 vaccines) developed against HPV virus types 16 and 18, which are the most common causes of cervical cancer, and 9 vaccines, which are not yet in our country, but will soon come to our country, it is possible to prevent cancer-precursor cellular changes. The risk of developing cancer in the future is eliminated. While patients diagnosed in the early stage are restored to health by surgery, they are treated with radio chemotherapy in the advanced stage.
